Polkadot Hackathon 2024: Bangkok Edition

The Polkadot Hackathon 2024 is set to commence in Bangkok, featuring a prize pool of $315,000 aimed at attracting new talent to the Polkadot ecosystem and furthering the Web3 industry.

After the Singapore event concluded in September, where 25 teams emerged from 279 participants, the focus now shifts to Thailand. Developers will compete to pitch innovative blockchain-based projects.

Organized by OneBlock+, this leg of the hackathon is scheduled for November 16, with registrations and code submissions due by October 23.

Expecting global participation, the competition will include categories such as infrastructure, smart contracts, AI, and custom blockchain solutions.

The event will reach its pinnacle on Demo Day, featuring a strong lineup of sponsors including Vara Network, CESS Network, and Bifrost. These sponsors will present bounty challenges, targeting areas like GameFi, decentralized applications, and innovative blockchain uses.

The timeline includes mentorship sessions, project evaluations, and a live demo day where teams present their projects to a panel of judges. Winners will be announced that evening.

The 2024 hackathon will introduce a category devoted to building blockchain solutions with Polkadot's SDK, allowing participants to create custom blockchains that can connect to the Kusama Relay Chain.

Projects may also involve developing parachains, privacy chains, decentralized storage, DAO chains, gaming blockchains, or decentralized identity solutions (DID).

In total, the hackathon will feature four tracks, with $315,000 in prizes. Each track will reward the top three teams with $40,000, $20,000, and $10,000 respectively.

Despite market challenges, developer activity within the Polkadot ecosystem remains robust. Recent statistics indicate that the network hosts 29,917 repositories, with weekly commits surpassing 5,500 and around 900 developers contributing each week to maintain momentum.
