Vitalik Buterin’s Memecoin Donation
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin donated $182,000 worth of ETH, which he converted from billions in the Moo Deng memecoin sent to him, to the biotech charity Kanro.
Buterin stated that any memecoins sent to him would go to charity. He encouraged users to either send tokens directly to charity or create a DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) to give people more say in how the funds are allocated.
“I’ve said before that I think the best thing for memecoins is if they can be maximally positive-sum for the world, so it’s great to see moments when that actually happens!” Buterin shared on social media platform X.
The Moo Deng memecoin MOODENG is inspired by a female pygmy hippo of the same name, who resides in Thailand’s Khao Kheow Open Zoo. The hippo gained viral fame for her adorable looks and seemingly aggressive behavior.
As of October 7, MOODENG was trading at approximately $0.105 and had a market capitalization exceeding $105 million according to CoinGecko. The price of Ether was near $2,508, experiencing a 2.72% increase over the past day.
