Japan Stock Market Update

Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Monday, with losses in the Paper & Pulp, Banking, and Steel sectors leading declines.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 4.82%.

Best Performers

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 included:
Resona Holdings, Inc. (TYO:8308) rose 5.90%, up 55.60 points, to trade at 997.60.
DeNA Co Ltd (TYO:2432) added 5.57%, up 94.00 points, ending at 1,783.00.
Mizuho Financial Group Inc (TYO:8411) increased by 4.19%, up 118.00 points, to 2,936.00.

Worst Performers

The worst performers were:
Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (TYO:3099) fell 10.64%, down 265.00 points, closing at 2,226.00.
Lasertec Corp (TYO:6920) declined 10.02%, down 2,630.00 points, to 23,605.00.
Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TYO:9501) was down 9.22%, down 64.70 points, closing at 636.90.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 3,218 to 528, with 128 stocks unchanged.

Shares in DeNA Co Ltd reached 52-week highs, gaining 5.57%.

The Nikkei Volatility index, which measures implied volatility for Nikkei 225 options, rose 1.92% to 26.51.

Commodities Update

  • Crude oil for November delivery: up 1.16% to $68.97 a barrel.
  • Brent oil for December delivery: up 1.27% to $72.45 a barrel.
  • December Gold Futures: up 0.44% to $2,679.75 a troy ounce.

Currency Exchange

  • USD/JPY: down 0.31% to 141.75.
  • EUR/JPY: down 0.29% to 158.25.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 100.08.
