Status Network Launches Gasless Layer 2 on Testnet

Status (SNT), recognized for its decentralized communication platform since 2017, has launched the first natively gasless Layer 2 network on testnet. This new Status Network, built on Consensys’ Linea zkEVM rollup, eliminates transaction fees and unveils a community-focused yield allocation system.

Instead of charging gas fees, Status converts bridged ETH and stablecoins into yield-bearing assets such as stETH and sDAI. This yield, combined with fees from native applications, finances builders and liquidity providers. The model seeks to draw users and deposits, fostering a self-sustaining cycle where increased activity produces more yield for the ecosystem. Pending governance approval, a portion of this yield might also facilitate SNT token buy-backs and burns.

The Status Network targets various use cases, encompassing gaming, social apps, and DeFi. Early applications feature a mobile RPG, an onchain gacha game, and a metaverse casino, with additional DeFi tools planned.

The testnet v1 is now operational, enabling fully gasless transactions. A second testnet version, which will include spam protection and yield routing, is slated for October 2025. The mainnet launch is anticipated in Q1 2026.
