Telegram CEO Pavel Durov Released from Police Authority

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has been released from French police authority and is set to appear in court facing a potential indictment, according to AP News.

This development follows Durov’s arrest on August 24 in France. He was detained for allegedly providing cryptography tools and services, specifically Telegram, to criminals involved in money laundering, child pornography, and drug trafficking as part of a broader cybercrime investigation.

The Wall Street Journal also reported that between 2017 and 2018, Durov reportedly met with French President Emmanuel Macron to facilitate Telegram’s move to France and to obtain French citizenship. Additionally, French spies allegedly collaborated with the United Arab Emirates to hack Durov’s phone.

Earlier on Wednesday, Telegram’s blockchain platform The Open Network (TON) experienced an outage lasting about six hours but has since reinstated block production. Its native token, Toncoin, traded at $5.53, experiencing a 1.25% increase in the past 24 hours, as noted by The Block’s price page.
