Web3 Intellectual Property Startup Spaceport Partners with Com2uS

Web3 intellectual property startup Spaceport is collaborating with a unit of Com2uS, a South Korean mobile and online gaming company, to integrate its IP into Roblox and Fortnite. This partnership enables the approximately 500 million gamers within these popular virtual platforms to engage as characters and monetize derivative works from Com2uS’s extensive franchises.

This initiative is part of Spaceport’s ongoing series of collaborations aimed at showcasing its “Internet of IP” platform, making existing content available to broader audiences while promoting a more democratic approach to IP usage, as the company noted in a recent statement. For instance, Toei Animation, famous for popular series like One Piece and Dragon Ball, declared on Tuesday its plans to license IP from its forthcoming film Hypergalatic for use on Roblox and Fortnite through Spaceport.

Traditionally, many companies are highly protective of their intellectual property, striving to restrict its usage. However, Spaceport allows players on Roblox and Fortnite to creatively remix Com2uS and Toei’s works without the risk of legal consequences. The platform also provides a content management system that facilitates the tracking of the origins of these derivative creations, known as “user-generated content.”

Founded in 2022 by Le Zhang and Lida Tang, who previously played key roles in launching multi-million dollar gaming franchises such as BioShock and Saints Row, Spaceport has raised $3.6 million in venture funding from Arca, Decasonic, and CRIT Ventures.
