Metaplanet Acquires More Bitcoin

Tokyo-based investment firm Metaplanet announced on Monday that it acquired an additional 150 bitcoin (BTC), raising its total holdings to 3,350 BTC, approximately valued at $291 million based on current market rates.

This purchase follows the recent appointment of Eric Trump, son of U.S. President Donald Trump, to Metaplanet’s newly formed strategic advisory board. His involvement is expected to enhance the firm’s profile and strategic direction.

Metaplanet aims to increase shareholder value by acquiring and holding bitcoin, utilizing a metric called BTC Yield to assess the effectiveness of this strategy.

BTC Yield reflects the percentage change in their bitcoin holdings relative to total shares over a specified period. From July to September 2024, their BTC Yield was 41.7%, indicating a steady growth of their bitcoin stash relative to shares. This figure surged to 309.8% from October to December 2024, attributed to significant additional bitcoin purchases during a price surge.

As of early 2025, between January 1 and March 24, Metaplanet reported a BTC Yield of 68.3%, according to documents released on Monday.
