Google Cloud Introduces Blockchain RPC Service

Google Cloud’s cloud division has launched a new blockchain remote procedure call (RPC) service aimed at supporting Web3 development.

Features

The RPC enables developers to access blockchain data and functionality through API calls. It is compatible with the Ethereum JSON-RPC standard, allowing seamless integration into existing applications with minimal adjustments.

Supported Networks

At launch, the Blockchain RPC service supports the Ethereum mainnet and its test networks, with plans to expand support to additional blockchain networks in the coming year.

Target Audience

Google Cloud has designed its RPC service for a diverse audience, catering to startups seeking a straightforward entry point into the blockchain space as well as large enterprises requiring a reliable, high-performance infrastructure solution.

Competition

The new service will compete with established RPC providers like Infura, Alchemy, QuickNode, and Ankr, enabling developers to interact with the blockchain without having to run a full node.

Free Tier

Google Cloud has implemented a free service tier, allowing up to 100 requests per second, which is deemed sufficient for building real-time, data-intensive applications.

Existing Services

In addition to the new RPC service, Google Cloud already offers several blockchain-focused infrastructure services, including node hosting and data analytics for various blockchains, such as Ethereum, Solana, and Aptos.
