Oasys Partners with SK Planet to Expand in South Korea
Japanese gaming blockchain Oasys has partnered with SK Planet, an affiliate of South Korean telecommunications giant SK Telecom, to enhance its presence in South Korea.
In a statement shared with The Block, Oasys indicated that the partnership aims to onboard “millions of users” to its gaming ecosystem. SK Planet’s OK Cashbag, a membership reward platform, boasts a substantial user base of 28 million members and 75,000 affiliated stores, which opens access for Oasys to this significant Korean market.
As part of the collaboration, SK Planet will serve as a validator for Oasys. “With SK Planet becoming Oasys’ new validator, users can soon stake OAS tokens directly to the SK Planet node from their wallets,” the team added. SK Planet’s digital wallet, UPTN Station, will also incorporate Oasys Hub.
Daiki Moriyama, director of Oasys, expressed optimism, stating, “The partnership will significantly enhance our protocol-level initiatives to boost blockchain gaming adoption and enable developers to leverage SK Planet’s vast user base through campaigns and promotions via UPTN Station.”
Oasys has actively sought to establish connections with Korean industry leaders. Earlier in February, it partnered with South Korean internet giant Kakao’s web3 gaming division, Metabora SG, facilitating the game publisher’s expansion into the Japanese market. Oasys has also collaborated with Com2uS, another Korean game developer, to onboard more titles.
Oasys, offering Layer 1 hub and Layer 2 networks for game development, counts major gaming leaders like Sega, Ubisoft, and Yield Guild Games among its validators.
Updated to reflect that SK Planet is an affiliate of SK Telecom.
