Ripple’s Potential Shift to XRP-Only System
David Schwartz, Ripple’s CTO, stated that the company could create an XRP-only system, but such a decision would limit its network effects and customer attraction.
During Ripple’s early days, the firm had to assess how much its enterprise payment solution would rely on XRP. At that time, offering alternatives to XRP was essential for viability, given the negligible scope without them.
Schwartz’s comments respond to community questions regarding the XRP token’s utility, especially since Ripple’s On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) can operate without it. He emphasized that Ripple aims to provide the best customer experience and does not see reliance on XRP as beneficial.
Currently, the company is focusing on Ripple Payments Direct (RPD), as Schwartz believes in not forcing others to use his preferred technology.
Despite these discussions, Ripple’s global business is expanding, notably having secured a significant license in the UAE to facilitate regulated payments.
