Sony Raises PS5 Prices in Japan
TOKYO (Reuters) – Sony (NYSE:SONY) announced on Tuesday that it will increase the price of its PlayStation 5 (PS5) games console in Japan by approximately 20%. This decision is attributed to challenging external factors, including global economic fluctuations.
Starting September 2, the new pricing will be 79,980 yen ($551) for the standard console and 72,980 yen for the diskless version, as stated in a blog post from the entertainment and technology conglomerate.
Additionally, Sony projects global PS5 sales of 18 million units for this financial year, a decline from the previous year’s figure of 20.8 million.
