LockBit’s Open Letter to FBI Director Kash Patel
LockBit, the ransomware group known for leaking sensitive data, has sent an open letter to FBI Director Kash Patel. In the letter, they claim to possess private information that could potentially destroy the FBI.
Patel, recently appointed to his role, formerly served as a public defender in Florida, among other legal positions.
As shared by vx-underground on X, LockBit’s letter starts with a birthday greeting and congratulations to Patel on becoming the ninth director of the FBI. It expresses concern for national security, identifying a “trans-continental pro-state group” as the main threat to the country. LockBit characterizes itself as a “worthy son of the American Fatherland” and accuses FBI agents of being liars and manipulators.
In an attempt to help Patel counter these threats, LockBit included a password-protected file titled “personal_gift_for_new_director_FBI_Kash_Patel.7z.” This file, described as the “best gift of all,” supposedly contains valuable guidance and information, but requires Patel to contact LockBit directly to access it. The ransomware group claims that revealing this information could fundamentally harm the FBI’s reputation and structure.
