Wildcard has migrated its Wildpass NFTs to the Ethereum mainnet and plans to launch a token.

About Wildcard

Wildcard is a crypto-optional PVP battle game where players use cards that transform into creatures, engaging in automated battles on a 3D battlefield. Spectators can also earn rewards by watching matches.

Developed by Playful Studios, co-founded by Paul Bettner, who has a history with games like Words With Friends and Age of Empires, Wildcard has been in development for over two years.

Challenges in Development

Bettner expresses that developing a fun game is challenging, and integrating crypto elements complicates matters further.

> “Building games while wandering through a minefield… unaligned incentives often hijack the design,” he reflects, emphasizing the struggle to keep the game enjoyable amidst the cryptocurrency landscape.

Bettner aims for Wildcard to be the standout choice in players’ game libraries, focusing on fun first.

NFT Migration and Community

Initially, the Wildpass NFTs were launched on Polygon, granting early access to 4,444 fans. Bettner refers to this group as the “golden cohort”. Recently, these NFTs were transitioned to the Ethereum mainnet, with the team covering the gas fees for holders.

While Bettner acknowledges higher transaction fees on Ethereum, he believes it offers better liquidity. Future NFTs may be launched on other EVM chains with lower costs.

Upcoming Token Features

The forthcoming WC token will be entirely community-owned, with no allocations for the team or backers, a move made to maintain community trust and stability. Bettner aims to set a new standard for token launches, especially in light of recent regulatory changes that make the landscape more favorable.
