The Contrast in Performance Between XRP and Ethereum (ETH)
In a recent commentary, popular crypto influencer Da Sheriff Crypto highlighted the stark differences in performance between XRP and Ethereum.
XRP Performance
A $1,000 investment in XRP made a year ago would have seen a remarkable 354% increase, going from $0.5384 in January 2024 to a current price of $2.57. This means that the investment of $1,000 acquired 1,857 tokens, now valued at around $4,540. At its peak, XRP reached $3.40, making the investment worth about $6,315.
Ethereum Performance
In contrast, a similar investment in Ethereum did not perform as well. A year ago, Ethereum was priced at $2,778 but is currently trading at $2,680, representing a decline of 4.6%. Thus, this $1,000 investment is now worth just $965, with its peak value reaching $1,475 before falling over 35% soon after.
Despite its strong presence in the crypto market, Ethereum’s one-year performance fell short compared to XRP.
Bitcoin Comparison
In comparison, Bitcoin showcased a much stronger performance, going from $51,000 last year to $96,000 today. A $1,000 investment in Bitcoin would now be worth $1,882 or $2,156 at its peak valuation.
Market Commentary
Sheriff sarcastically referred to Ethereum as the “king of stability,” contrasting its recent performance with that of XRP:
> If you had thrown $1,000 into $XRP a year ago, you’d be up 354%.
> But if you had taken that same $1k play with $ETH. Congrats, you’d be down a solid -2.07%. $ETH is the king of stability. 👑

The Future of XRP and Ethereum
As Ethereum faces challenges, discussions have arisen regarding XRP potentially overtaking it as the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap. With XRP’s impressive performance, it stands closely behind Ethereum. Austin King, a computer science engineer, has criticized Ethereum’s issues, suggesting that a 3X price surge from XRP could enable it to surpass Ethereum’s market cap, which currently has a $177 billion gap.
