The Fort Knox Gold Controversy

It’s widely accepted that the United States holds approximately 147.3 million ounces of gold at Fort Knox. However, Elon Musk and others have publicly questioned this fact.

Daniel Ivandjiiski, the blogger behind ZeroHedge, claimed on X that the last time anyone saw the gold was way back in 1974.

Musk, now a special government employee, expressed surprise that Fort Knox’s gold isn’t checked more frequently and posted a meme suggesting the gold might be missing.

Unfortunately for Musk, Ivandjiiski is lying.

Images released under the Freedom of Information Act show otherwise. During Donald Trump’s first term, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and other Congress members, including Mitch McConnell, visited Fort Knox and viewed the bullion held there.

Additionally, documents confirmed that the Treasury Office of Inspector General conducts yearly audits of United States Mint Custodial Gold Schedules. These audits involve inspecting gold compartments and joint seals to ensure they are locked and intact.

Despite these confirmations, some Bitcoin supporters have rallied behind Musk’s claims, speculating about the gold’s possible absence and its implications for a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. Politicians like Cynthia Lummis also suggested the Federal Reserve should revalue its gold certificates to fund Bitcoin purchases.
