Pirate Nation Expands to Second Chain

Proof of Play’s web3 game Pirate Nation is adding a second chain after reaching maximum capacity on its initial network, Apex.

Co-founded by FarmVille co-creator Amitt Mahajan, the free-to-play game gained such popularity that it maxed out Apex, an Arbitrum ARB L3 chain. The new chain, called Boss Chain, aims to accommodate the growing number of users and transactions.

Pirate Nation, a pirate-themed roleplaying game, launched nearly three months ago and quickly secured a token listing on Coinbase.

Last year, a16z crypto and Greenoaks co-led a $33 million seed round in Proof of Play, with participation from Naval Ravikant.

In the recent statement, Mahajan highlighted the necessity of utilizing multiple blockchains to handle user growth. He compared it to his experience with FarmVille, where he managed around 64 databases for 30 million daily active users to prevent crashes.

Currently, Apex processes about 2.5 million transactions daily.
