Tether and Bitfinex Leadership Change
Tether and Bitfinex General Counsel Stuart Hoegner has retired, with Michael Hilliard taking over legal affairs for both companies, as announced on Thursday.
Hoegner and Hilliard had co-led the legal efforts of Tether and Bitfinex for several years, according to a statement. This leadership change follows the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation coming into full effect on Dec. 30. MiCA has established a stricter regulatory environment for stablecoin issuers in the EU, including reserve and liquidity mandates. Hoegner was instrumental in navigating Tether and Bitfinex through complex regulatory frameworks, as stated by both companies.
Hoegner joined Bitfinex in 2014. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino expressed gratitude for Hoegner’s significant contributions, saying, “Stu’s contributions to both Tether and Bitfinex have been immeasurable, and we are deeply grateful for his years of dedicated service.” Ardoino affirmed confidence in Hilliard’s leadership to enhance legal operations and guide Tether and Bitfinex through future growth and innovation.
Ardoino also serves as CTO of Bitfinex.
