Metaplanet Plans to Expand Bitcoin Holdings to 10,000 BTC by 2025

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet aims to increase its bitcoin holdings to 10,000 BTC by 2025, a significant rise from its current treasury of approximately 1,761.98 BTC (worth $175.4 million).

In a post on X, CEO Simon Gerovich expressed the company’s plan to leverage capital market tools to achieve this goal. The firm acquired 619.7 BTC on December 23, following a successful 9.5 billion yen (around $60.6 million) bond issuance.

Starting in May 2024, Metaplanet began adopting bitcoin as a strategic treasury reserve asset and has been actively purchasing since. Gerovich emphasized their focus on enhancing value for shareholders and expanding Metaplanet’s impact in both Japan and the broader bitcoin ecosystem.

As of now, bitcoin is trading at $99,472, with a 1.24% increase in the last 24 hours, while ether rose by 1.16% to $3,670. Metaplanet’s stock has seen a 2.73% increase, closing at 3,575 yen on Monday, despite the Nikkei 225 index dropping by 1.48%. MicroStrategy remains the largest corporate bitcoin holder with 446,400 BTC.
