Canada Stock Market Update

Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, driven by losses in the Utilities, IT, and Industrials sectors.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.26%.

  • SSR Mining Inc (TSX:SSRM): +12.10% (+1.09 points) to end at 10.10.
  • Fortuna Mining Corp (TSX:FVI): +7.65% (+0.51 points) to 7.18.

Worst Performers

  • Bird Construction Inc. (TSX:BDT): -7.12% (-2.13 points) to trade at 27.79.
  • Capital Power Corporation (TSX:CPX): -6.26% (-4.25 points) to end at 63.60.
  • Cameco Corp (TSX:CCO): -5.56% (-4.80 points) to 81.57.

Market Statistics

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 570 to 368, while 88 ended unchanged.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, decreased by 8.99% to 8.30, marking a new 3-month low.

Commodities Trading

  • Gold Futures for February delivery rose 0.85% (+22.60) to $2,682.20 a troy ounce.
  • Crude oil for January delivery increased 1.44% (+0.97) to $68.17 a barrel.
  • Brent oil for February climbed 1.15% (+0.82) to $71.94 a barrel.

Currency Exchange Rates

  • CAD/USD was unchanged at 0.13% to 0.71.
  • CAD/EUR saw a minor change, remaining at 0.07% to 0.67.

  • The US Dollar Index Futures rose 0.10% to 105.83.
