Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 556 to 275, with 112 ending unchanged.
Shares in BlackBerry Ltd rose to 52-week highs, up 4.05% to 5.65. In contrast, shares in Telus Corp fell to 5-year lows, down 1.52% to 19.45.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, decreased 2.00% to 10.79.

- Gold Futures for February delivery were up 0.20% (up 5.30 to $2,633.50 a troy ounce).
- Crude Oil for February rose 1.33% (up 0.92 to $70.16 a barrel).
- Brent Oil for March increased 1.24% (up 0.90 to $73.22 a barrel).
