Workers Found in Slavery-Like Conditions at BYD Construction Site
RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) – About 163 workers were found in slavery-like conditions at a construction site for carmaker BYD (SZ:002594) in Brazil's Bahia state, labor authorities stated during a press conference on Monday.
According to authorities, the workers were laboring for long hours, exceeding Brazilian legal limits, and were kept in degrading conditions in their accommodations, among other labor violations.
BYD did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
