Unichain Mainnet Launch
Unichain, a DeFi-focused Layer 2 solution built on the OP Stack by Uniswap, is set to launch its public mainnet in early 2025.
The project currently operates on Ethereum’s Sepolia testnet, having processed over 50 million transactions and deployed more than 4 million contracts since October. The Sepolia testnet has maintained more than 99% uptime for all critical services, as reported by Uniswap.
Planned Maintenance
Beginning January 6, 2025, Unichain Sepolia will undergo maintenance to activate permissionless fault proofs. These features will allow participants to verify blockchain states and challenge invalid withdrawals, enhancing network security. Fault proofs serve as a mechanism for Ethereum Layer 2 networks, enabling users to contest potentially fraudulent transactions.
After this maintenance and safety validations, the mainnet will open to the public, allowing users to bridge funds to the network and utilize applications built on Unichain.
Upcoming Features
Post-mainnet launch, Unichain will introduce new features such as Flashblocks, which promise to reduce block times to 250 milliseconds for near-instantaneous transactions.
To address risks with single-sequencer architectures, Unichain will create the Unichain Validation Network, a decentralized group of node operators that validate the latest blockchain state. Additionally, the network will include Rollup-Boost, a verifiable block-building platform developed by Flashbots.
As Unichain’s mainnet goes live, it will integrate into Optimism’s Superchain ecosystem, with Uniswap Labs as a core contributor to the OP Stack. Notably, in the past 24 hours, Uniswap, the leading decentralized exchange by volume on Ethereum, processed over $1 billion in transactions.
