Canada Stock Market Update

Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, Clean Technology, and REITs sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.76%.

Best Performers

The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were:
BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB): +23.13% (0.99 points) to trade at 5.27.
First Quantum Minerals Ltd (TSX:FM): +8.04% (1.40 points) to end at 18.81.
Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY): +6.59% (0.11 points) to trade at 1.78.

Worst Performers

The worst performers of the session were:
Aya Gold & Silver Inc (TSX:AYA): -3.73% (0.42 points) to trade at 10.84.
TFI International Inc (TSX:TFII): -2.72% (5.57 points) to end at 198.94.
Energy Fuels Inc (TSX:EFR): -2.18% (0.17 points) to trade at 7.63.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 629 to 295, with 94 ending unchanged.

Shares in BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) rose to 52-week highs, gaining 23.13% or 0.99 to 5.27.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.27% to 11.66.

Commodities Update

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.25% (32.69) to $2,640.79 a troy ounce.

Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.57% (1.11) to hit $69.47 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.04% (0.03) to trade at $72.91 a barrel.

Currency Update

  • CAD/USD was unchanged at 0.70.
  • CAD/EUR remained unchanged at 0.67.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.53% at 107.57.
