(Reuters) – Generative artificial intelligence startup Liquid AI announced on Friday that it has completed a $250 million early-stage funding round led by Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD), also its strategic partner.
Consumer GenAI, which garnered global attention in 2022 with the launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT, is at the forefront of the rapidly expanding AI sector. This year, investors have directed billions into GenAI startups.
Liquid AI focuses on developing Liquid Foundation Models (LFMs), claiming these are smaller and more efficient AI models designed for enterprise use, in contrast to traditional cloud-based offerings by OpenAI, AWS, and Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL) Cloud.
The strategic alliance with AMD will aid the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based startup in optimizing LFMs using AMD’s graphic, central, and neural processing units.
The funding will also provide resources for Liquid AI to scale infrastructure and create tailored LFMs for various industries, including consumer electronics, biotechnology, telecommunications, financial services, and e-commerce.
