Developer Growth Report

A new developer report from venture firm Electric Capital found Solana is the number one blockchain for new developers.

The report revealed that of the 39,148 new developers who started exploring crypto this year, 7,625 built on Solana, marking an 83% year-over-year growth in the network's developer count. This is the first time a blockchain ecosystem has grown faster than Ethereum since 2016.

Despite this growth, Ethereum remains the top blockchain by total developer share across North and South America, Asia, Europe, and Africa. Solana ranks second in developer count in these regions.

Numerous factors contributed to this increased interest in Solana, including a surge in network and user activity driven by a memecoin rally due to platforms like Pump.fun, which facilitated the launch of memecoins.

Electric Capital’s report also highlighted that in 2024, Aptos, Base, Bitcoin, Internet Computer, NEAR, Polkadot, Polygon, Starknet, and Sui each gained over 1,000 new developers. Additionally, BNB, Optimism, Scroll, Stellar, and TON attracted over 500 new developers each.
