Canada Stocks Decline After Close

Canada's stocks fell after the close on Tuesday, primarily due to losses in the Healthcare, IT, and Real Estate sectors.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined by 0.47%.

Best Performers

  • SSR Mining Inc (TSX:SSRM): Up 5.94% or 0.60 points to trade at 10.70.
  • Innergex Renewable Energy Inc (TSX:INE): Up 4.58% or 0.39 points to end at 8.90.
  • Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO): Up 2.87% or 0.39 points to 13.99.

Worst Performers

  • Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG): Down 4.89% or 1.46 points to trade at 28.41.
  • Lundin Gold Inc (TSX:LUG): Down 4.82% or 1.71 points to end at 33.75.
  • Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO): Down 4.48% or 0.94 points to trade at 20.03.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 519 to 413, with 90 remaining unchanged.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 12.29% to 9.32.

Commodities

  • Gold Futures for February delivery rose 1.27% or 34.11 to $2,719.91 a troy ounce.
  • Crude oil for January delivery increased by 0.03% or 0.02 to $68.39 a barrel.
  • The February Brent oil contract fell 0.19% or 0.14 to $72.00 a barrel.

Currency Exchange Rates

  • CAD/USD remained unchanged at 0.71.
  • CAD/EUR remained unchanged at 0.67.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.24% at 106.08.
