Amazon Enters Quick Commerce in India

(Reuters) – Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) will begin trials for quick commerce operations in India, delivering grocery items in 15 minutes or less.

Quick commerce is rapidly growing in India, with competitors like Zomato's Blinkit and SoftBank-backed Swiggy's Instamart promising deliveries within 10 minutes, challenging traditional e-commerce.

Seattle-headquartered Amazon aims to implement a strategy focused on offering the largest selection at the fastest speeds and greatest value to customers nationwide, according to Samir Kumar, Amazon India's country manager.

India’s quick commerce industry is projected to exceed $6 billion in annual sales this year, up from $100 million in 2020, as per research firm Datum Intelligence.

Earlier this year, Amazon’s larger domestic competitor, Walmart-backed Flipkart, launched its own quick commerce service in select cities, promising 10-minute grocery deliveries. Additionally, billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance has initiated a pilot for 10-30 minute delivery service near Mumbai.
