Ford Calls for Consumer Incentives for Electric Vehicles
(Reuters) – Ford Motor Co (NYSE:F)'s UK chair has called on the British government to provide consumer incentives of up to £5,000 per electric vehicle, according to a report from Sky News on Tuesday.
Global automakers are currently facing new challenges as they strive to profit from their electrified ventures. They are experiencing stiff competition from affordable Chinese vehicles and uneven demand for electric vehicles (EVs).
Lisa Brankin, Ford's UK and Ireland chair, emphasized that direct support for consumers to purchase zero-emission vehicles is crucial for the industry's viability, as reported.
Ford did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In November, it was reported that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's transition team was considering eliminating the $7,500 consumer tax credit for EV purchases as part of broader tax-reform legislation.
