Canadian Stock Market Update
Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, Materials, and Energy sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.22%.
Best and Worst Performers
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were:
– Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ): +5.08% (2.37 points) to trade at 49.01 at the close.
– Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX): +3.14% (2.06 points) to end at 67.70.
– TransAlta Corp (TSX:TA): +2.65% (0.42 points) to 16.29 in late trade.
The worst performers were:
– Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD): -8.23% (2.16 points) to trade at 24.09.
– Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC): -8.03% (0.96 points) to end at 10.99.
– South Bow Corp (TSX:SOBO): -5.90% (2.18 points) to 34.78.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 636 to 312, with 91 ending unchanged.
Shares in TransAlta Corp (TSX:TA) rose to 5-year highs, up 2.65% (0.42) to 16.29.
Volatility and Commodity Prices
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, measuring the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 9.30% to 10.04, a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.77% (20.59) to $2,660.41 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for January delivery rose 0.28% (0.19) to hit $68.19 a barrel, and the February Brent oil contract rose 0.11% (0.08) to trade at $71.92 a barrel.
Currency Exchange Rates
CAD/USD was unchanged at 0.38% to 0.71, while CAD/EUR remained unchanged at 0.27% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.53% at 106.39.
