Musk's Efficiency Panel Initiative

Date: WASHINGTON (Reuters)

Elon Musk's government efficiency panel seeks to recruit "high IQ" employees and will host weekly livestreams, highlighting President-elect Donald Trump’s drive to streamline the U.S. bureaucracy.

Trump appointed Musk, CEO of Tesla, and Vivek Ramaswamy, a former Republican presidential candidate, to lead the panel. Their primary goal is to propose significant cuts to the federal workforce, regulations, and spending.

The ambitious aspirations of Musk and Trump for the panel's transformative capabilities have generated substantial publicity and interest in its operations.

Ramaswamy announced on X that the weekly livestreams will commence soon. He and Musk had previously discussed government and American culture in live broadcasts on X, which Musk owns.

On Thursday, they sought resumes from "super high-IQ small-government revolutionaries" eager to work over 80 hours a week on cost-cutting measures, as detailed on the panel's new X account.

In a speech at Mar-a-Lago, Trump indicated that the panel would produce individual reports on its activities along with a major report expected on July 4, 2026.

Ramaswamy has been vocal about areas in the U.S. government needing significant reform, citing excessive bureaucracy that hinders innovation and drives up costs in agencies like the FDA and Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

It remains uncertain if the panel is an official government entity or an external advisory group. Given that Congress controls the federal budget, any substantial spending reductions will require its approval.
