U.K. Stocks Close Lower

U.K. stocks fell after the close on Wednesday, led by losses in Household Goods & Home Construction, Healthcare Equipment & Services, and Mining sectors.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.11%.

Best Performers

  • Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) rose 5.56% (+332.00 points) to 6,300.00.
  • Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) added 5.41% (+13.25 points) to 258.15.
  • InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) was up 5.24% (+448.00 points) to 9,002.00.

Worst Performers

  • Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) fell 8.67% (-127.50 points) to 1,343.50.
  • Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK) declined 4.72% (-224.00 points) to 4,518.00.
  • Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) was down 4.09% (-5.95 points) to 139.65.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 933 to 910, with 617 ending unchanged.

Shares in Ashtead Group PLC rose to 52-week highs, Barclays PLC reached 5-year highs, and InterContinental Hotels Group PLC hit all-time highs.

Commodities

  • Gold Futures for December delivery fell 2.65% (-72.80) to $2,676.90 per troy ounce.
  • Crude oil for December rose 0.10% (+0.07) to $72.06 a barrel.
  • January Brent oil contract fell 0.19% (-0.14) to $75.39 a barrel.

Currency Markets

  • GBP/USD was down 1.11% to 1.29.
  • EUR/GBP fell 0.64% to 0.83.

The US Dollar Index Futures rose 1.60% to 104.98.
