David Hirsh Joins McGuireWoods
Former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission crypto and cybersecurity lead David Hirsh has joined the law firm McGuireWoods.
Hirsh previously led the SEC’s Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit (CACU) and will now be a part of the firm’s Washington D.C.-based securities enforcement and regulatory counseling practice.
According to a press release, Hirsh “played a leading role establishing the agency’s approach to enforcing registration obligations for a variety of crypto asset activities.”
In recent years, the SEC has taken a increasingly hostile stance towards the growing cryptocurrency industry in the U.S., filing lawsuits against several prominent firms, including crypto exchanges Coinbase, Kraken, and Uniswap.
Joining the SEC in 2015, Hirsh served as counsel to former SEC Commissioner Caroline Crenshaw, providing advisory support in enforcement recommendations.
“Cybersecurity and crypto are rapidly evolving areas of the law and Dave’s unique background and extensive experience in securities enforcement will help our clients stay ahead of the curve,” said Robert Muckenfuss, Chair of the Financial Services and Securities Enforcement Department at McGuireWoods.
