EigenLayer Enhances Ethereum Restaking
Ethereum’s restaking project, EigenLayer, is introducing permissionless token support. This feature allows any ERC-20 token to be added as a restakable asset. Eigen Labs shared this development on X, noting that it will broaden the range of assets contributing to decentralized networks’ security, thus unlocking the cryptoeconomic potential of unlimited ERC-20 tokens on the EigenLayer protocol.
After completing an initial testing phase on the testnet, Eigen Labs plans to launch on the mainnet next week. User Interface support for restakers will follow later in Q3.
Earlier this year, venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz invested $100 million in Eigen Labs, the core team behind EigenLayer. The project currently boasts over $12 billion in total assets, as reported by DefiLama.
EigenLayer’s protocol enables users to re-stake validators’ ether stakes natively or through liquid staking tokens, channeling funds to secure third-party protocols economically.
