Oasys Partners with SK Planet to Expand in South Korea
Japanese gaming blockchain Oasys has partnered with SK Planet, an affiliate of South Korean telecommunications giant SK Telecom, to grow its presence in South Korea.
In a statement shared with The Block, Oasys announced that the partnership is expected to onboard "millions of users" to the Oasys gaming ecosystem. The team explained that SK Planet’s OK Cashbag, a membership reward platform, boasts a large user base of 28 million members across 75,000 affiliated stores, granting Oasys potential access to this significant Korean market.
As part of the collaboration, SK Planet will serve as a validator for Oasys. This means that users will soon be able to stake OAS tokens directly to the SK Planet node from their wallets. SK Planet’s digital wallet, UPTN Station, will also integrate Oasys Hub.
Daiki Moriyama, director of Oasys, stated, "[The partnership] will significantly enhance our protocol-level initiatives to boost blockchain gaming adoption and enable developers to leverage SK Planet’s vast user base through campaigns and promotions via UPTN Station.”
Oasys has been actively establishing ties with Korean industry leaders. Previously, in February, it announced a partnership with Kakao’s web3 gaming division, Metabora SG, to support the publisher’s expansion into the Japanese market. Oasys also collaborated with Com2uS, another Korean game developer, to onboard more games.
Oasys, which provides Layer 1 hub and Layer 2 networks for game development, has established validators that include gaming giants such as Sega, Ubisoft, and Yield Guild Games.
Updated to reflect that SK Planet is an affiliate of SK Telecom.
