ethOS Launches dGEN1

Ethereum-based operating system ethOS has introduced dGEN1, a mobile device designed for interacting with on-chain dapps and running a light client.

Described by the company as “the first on-chain everyday carry,” dGEN1 includes a browser and a built-in wallet. It features a specialized screen that displays transaction notifications and metadata during network interactions.

Derived from LineageOS and a fork of Android, ethOS integrates a native Nimbus light client to ensure users' data is verified when engaging with on-chain dapps without relying on trusted third-party RPCs. The built-in ethOS browser supports IPFS and .eth domains.

The dGEN1 device is available for preorders by minting an NFT on the Base Layer 2 network for 0.2 ETH ($520). The company anticipates shipping the devices by the second quarter of 2025. According to Basescan, about 1000 wallets currently hold the NFT.

According to the website, device owners will receive an airdrop reward upon delivery of the dGEN1. Each owner will be entitled to an equal share of the airdrop pool.

Notably, dGEN1 follows widely popular blockchain-focused devices from Solana Mobile, starting with Saga. Solana’s second phone model, Seeker, received over 140,000 pre-orders in 57 countries and is scheduled to begin shipping in mid-2025.
