Status SNT Partners with Linea for Layer 2 Rollup Solution

Status SNT, a decentralized messaging platform based on Ethereum, has formed a partnership with Consensys-backed Linea to launch a Layer 2 rollup solution.

In 2017, Status raised $100 million through its ICO for its native SNT token. Linea, which launched last year as a zkEVM Layer 2 blockchain, is supported by blockchain development company Consensys.

Together, they are creating the Status Network, which will run alongside Linea’s zkEVM chain, utilizing the Linea software stack. “By launching Status Network, we envision creating the infrastructure needed to support a thriving, decentralized ecosystem of apps and services,” said Cyprien Grau, a core contributor at Status.

Status contributors will engage with Linea’s open-source code and manage a parallel version. The Status team will also assist in engineering for Linea, aiming to enhance client and prover support and ensure interoperability between the two networks.

Nicolas Liochon, Linea Global Lead, noted, “Our collaboration with Status is a natural fit, given their contributions to core Ethereum operations and their consumer-facing focus through the Status app.” The Status-developed Nimbus, a widely-used consensus client on Ethereum, will be adapted as a Linea client.

The partnership will focus on decentralizing the sequencing and proving processes for Linea and will also support public funding initiatives, social applications, GameFi, and governance experiments.
