Spaceport Partners with Com2uS for IP on Roblox and Fortnite

Web3 intellectual property startup Spaceport is collaborating with a unit of South Korean mobile and online gaming company Com2uS to incorporate its IP into Roblox and Fortnite. This partnership allows the approximately 500 million gamers in these popular virtual worlds to play as characters and monetize derivative works associated with Com2uS’s franchises.

This initiative marks another step in Spaceport’s efforts to expand its "Internet of IP" platform, aimed at presenting existing content to new audiences while democratizing its use. Recently, Toei Animation, known for "One Piece" and "Dragon Ball", announced it would also utilize Spaceport for licensing its IP from the film "Hypergalatic" to Roblox and Fortnite.

Traditionally, firms are protective of their IP, limiting its use. However, Spaceport offers players on Roblox and Fortnite the freedom to remix creations from Com2uS and Toei without legal concerns. The platform includes a content management system that tracks the provenance of these derivative works, often referred to as user-generated content.

Spaceport was co-founded in 2022 by Le Zhang and Lida Tang, who previously launched billion-dollar gaming franchises such as "BioShock" and "Saints Row", with $3.6 million in venture capital funding from Arca, Decasonic, and CRIT Ventures.
